NUDIW was established on 6th March 1961 and the founder of NUDIW was the late Brother Iruthiam Xavior, also the General Secretary of the Union. He has worked in F&N, Jalan Foss, Kuala Lumpur. Founder of the union together with the late DR. V. David who is also the first adviser of the union. He is also the former MTUC General Secretary and Parliamentarian for Puchong.
Initially the name of the Union was registered as the National Union of Drinking Beverage Producers, but by the end of 1999 the new name was registered as the National Union of Drinking Industry of Peninsular Malaysia. This means that their scope has been expanded and not limited to manufacturing only. With such efforts we can make the beverage industry not only in the manufacturing process but also involve marketing and others.
National Union of Drink Industry Workers Peninsular Malaysia is open to all employees of Beverages Companies in Peninsular Malaysia. Workers who are eligible to joint the Union are Production Operator, Technician, Mechanical, Electrician, Boilerman, Clerk, Quality Control, Quality Assistant, Line Leader, Semi Skill Worker and Skill Worker. Our Union can also represent Marketing employees Companies such as Lorry Driver, Salesman, Helper and Beverages Vending Machines
The Union of NUDIW was established and registered in 1961. On this day the Union of NUDIW is firmly established. There are many bitter and sweet experiences has been go through in the Union. Various problems, obstacles and challenges to be encountered throughout the Union. To the leaders and the experts remember the services and sacrifices of the former leader as they struggled to raise the Union. It's not easy to establish Union unless we are united.
As a leader we have to perform our duties and responsibilities as well. I am proud of the leaders of the NUDIW Union who are willing to fight for the Union. It's not easy to get a leader like this.
Members should not be divided and should unite within the Union. If we are all united then surely the employer is afraid to oppress the experts. This is because the Trade Union alone can defend the fate of workers. Fight with sincerity.
The Union hopes that all members will support the Union leaders so that the Union will flourish and the fate of the workers will be defended. Do not be easily influenced by seditious people who want to see Unions and dissidents.
Finally, I would like to thank all the leaders and members for working together in the Union.
I was appointed as Exco on 06 December 1992 in the 14th Delegate Conference. After two years I was appointed and recognized as a General Secretary NUDIW in the Union on 27 November 1994 through a vote of members in the 15th Delegates Conference (TDC) untill now and was recognized by the Department of Trade Union Affairs (RTU) Minister of Human Resource.
I appreciate his philosophy and look forward to seeing better life for workers and employers in our country. We must increase the organizing activities to rise up membership with the Union, we can improve the terms and conditions of service so that the standard of living of the employees is more robust and good.
NUDIW often represents members in the Joint Agreement negotiations process and it is our main and important responsibility to resolve the dispute of our Union members to uphold the employee’s dignity and improve the standard of living of members.
During this period, I am proud to report that the NUDIW Union established on the 6th of March 1961 successfully. It is the responsibility of every member to play an active role and practice the 'united' culture to strengthen and empower this Passover. Aside from organising and representing members in any dispute, and solving the problems of NUDIW members, it also provides knowledge and awareness of unity interests, worker’s rights and work deeds through courses organized by NUDIW and with other Organisation (NGO).
These activities are ongoing and will continue in the future for the better benefits to all NUDIW members.
The future of the Union is full of challenges and is a key task of the NUDIW leadership to guarantee employment for all permanent employees and raise the standard of living of its members. Among our main challenges is to eliminate the income divide gap between the lower income group and the management group. To achieve this challenge we must work together to handle our enemies. I feel more confident through the unity and support of the members.
